Today we read on the destruction of false religion and John's understanding of what they have done to mankind. We read in Revelation 17:1-2, "The one of the seven angles who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, 'Come, I will show you the judgement of the great harlot who sits on the many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.'"
As with any verse in Revelation, there's a lot here. The harlot is the false, empty religion that enticed mankind and convinced people to follow her and to commit her. And commit they did, falling for each and every line, going after a false religious system leading them to a trust in something other than Jesus Christ for their relationship with God, trusting in their works, their goodness or something other than Jesus. In the Bible, in a spiritual sense, adultery is the worship of another god. And so God said the nation of Israel in the worshipping of Baal, Mammon and Molech and so forth were committing adultery. They had gone out in their whoredoms. So, false worship of God or the worship of other gods is spiritual harlotry. So the great whore that has lead so many people into a false hope because they are not worshipping God in spirit and in truth according to the word of God.
It's always good to compare what we hear from a church, or a preacher to what the bible says, to test it against Jesus and His standards. By being strong in His word, we're able to resist the adultery and fornication and spiritual harlotry and stay true to God.
Blessings to all
