Reflections from December 20, 2010

God's wrath is poured out of seven bowls as we read today; on the earth causing sores on mankind, in the oceans turning them to blood, in the rivers turning them to blood as well, on the sun causing mankind to be scorched, onto the beast causing darkness and pain, into the river Euphrates which then dried up, and finally the seventh bowl into the air and a loud voice said "It is done!" after which earthquakes destroyed the cities of the earth. Such tribulation on the people of the earth! They still will not honor God and find Him holy, instead, they continue to blaspheme Him and suffer from these righteous and true judgements poured out on those with the mark of the beast. Were they expecting it? They should have been, for as we read in Revelation 16:15, "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame."

This should not be a surprise to us, for we where warned twice that this is how the Lord will come. We read in 2 Peter 3:10, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up."

Peter wrote these words many years before John wrote his Revelation. But the continuity between them is remarkable. We can trust that God's word is true and thorough; and it will come to pass. By studying His word, we can be prepared, and be saved from the wrath that comes with the seven bowls. We will keep our garments and be ready.

Blessings to all
