Reflections from August 4, 2010

Paul tells the Corinthians to deal with immorality in order to keep themselves pure. He says in 1 Corinthians 5:8, “Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

Paul’s words were to the believers that were engaged in sinful activity with each other and within the church. He states “a little leaven leavens the whole lump,” meaning that one or two within their midst can cause disruption to the whole congregation. He stated the person must be confronted, made clean by Christ, and restored to their Christian ways. If restoration was not possible, then the person had to be removed so that others would not fall into the trap of temptation brought on by the person. The goal is to make all believers clean before the Lord, because there are no throwaway people in the kingdom of God.

Blessings to all
