Today we read about great things coming from small beginnings in Luke 13:19 where it says, "[The kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed, which a man took and put in his garden; and it grew and became a large tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches."
Here, Jesus is describing the kingdom of God and faith as starting out small, but ultimately having a big effect. He likened it to a small seed that grows into a tree-like plant, just like we might talk about an small acorn becoming a mighty oak tree.
Today, we in our culture, tend to equate significance with magnitude. This parable of Jesus reminds us of the power of small but potent faith and of simple but solid kingdom values. Paul told of these lasting things in his letter to the Galatians where he spoke of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
God's challenge to us as His people is not to be impressed by power, success, or super-achievement, but to give ourselves to the little things; the things of His kingdom. Therein lies the significance.
Blessings to all
