Reflections from July 14, 2010

Jesus asked a lot of His followers and He summed it up very crisply in Luke 14:27 where He says, "And whoever does not bear the cross and come after me cannot be My disciple."

There are privileges that come with being a follower of Christ, but there is also a cost to pay, and Jesus brings this out. There's the cost of service in that we must serve Jesus before all others. The cost of sacrifice in that we must give up our interests for the interests of God. The cost of self-assessment in that we must honestly look at ourselves and know how God has equipped us and empowered us to do exactly what He wants us to do. And then the cost of strategy in that we must take time to think through all the issues to the best of our ability and have the courage to act when we don't know everything.

Jesus will equip us to work at the best of our ability. All He asks is that we give up our earthly desires to fulfill His desires. And if we do, we'll be truly blessed, both here on earth, and in heaven.

Blessings to all
