Reflections from July 12, 2010

Our verse today comes from Luke 12:8-9, where Jesus gives us a wonderful promise and says, "Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him, the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God."

Here, Jesus has just warned against hypocrisy, and tells the people gathered that they will receive a just reward in heaven if the tell others they are a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Their reward won't come on earth where they, and today we, may be mocked and ridiculed for our steadfast conviction to serve Jesus. At the time of our reward in reaching heaven, we will stand high, in the esteem of the holy angels; they will love us, and honor us, and own us, if they be Christ’s servants; we are their fellow-servants, and they will take us for their companions.

But, if we tell Jesus to His face that He is our Lord, but deny Him to other people we're in contact with, then Jesus will deny us to the angels and we will be abandoned by them, tormented by the fact we can't bask in the companionship and glory.

I don't know about you, but my goal is to be close, intimate friends with the angels of God, knowing that they are expecting me someday and will already know my name since Jesus has confessed me to them. I'll confess Jesus to others. I trust the Lord to help me do that both by my words and my works.

Blessings to all
