Today we read in Hebrews 5:14, "But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil."
The writer is exhorting us to become mature Christians, being able to teach others about Jesus and God's righteousness. He doesn't want us to sit back and just be fed like a little baby, taking in only mother's milk and soft foods. This is what we'll receive at many churches. Surface talking points on the Bible's instructions. We need to go into each book, each chapter, each verse line-by-line and study each word that God puts there to understand what it means to us directly, and how it relates to other parts of the Bible, and how it relates to God's plan for mankind. Now that's meat and potatoes Bible understanding. And with that food, you can relate it to those with less understanding and maturity which is what God wants us to do.
Today in Proverbs 7:25-27 we read, "Do no let your heart turn aside to her ways, Do not stray into her paths; For she has cast down many wounded, And all who were slain by her were strong men. Her house is the way to hell, Descending to the chambers of death."
Just as we spoke in the last Reflection, this speaks directly to the dangers of being immoral; and the dangers of death resulting from adultery. We can be so easily seduced; we must keep our guard up at all times, praying as Job did to the point that Satan expressed his frustration to God by saying, "Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side?" I want to be so protected by God, so close to Him that all I do is make Satan very frustrated.
From Proverbs 8:30-31 it states, "Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men."
The speaks to the joy of working and the joy of creating. Have you ever spent time making a project such as furniture, or an addition to your house, or working on a project with your sons or daughters, that you took pride in, and you had plain ol' fun while doing? That's the same way "wisdom" feels. Wisdom is our companion just as it is God's companion. Wisdom speaks of the joy of creation and the joy while creating. Wisdom is a daily delight, and wants to be used every day as well. By making wisdom our companion just like God does, we'll enjoy its company and share in its delight during the day while we create at our jobs.
Blessings to all.
