Today's New Testament verse is Acts 9:31, "Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied."
Acts 9 tells us about the conversion of Saul of Tarsus who persecuted the early Christians with the blessings of the high priests. As you recall, Saul was converted directly by Jesus on the road to Damascus. (Think about that management technique; Jesus recruited the enemy's best employee and Paul became one of the best for Jesus!). It was through the preaching of the Lord by Paul that all the churches in the area breathed a sigh of relief, and became comfortable knowing they had the Lord placing a strong hedge of protection around them through the Holy Spirit (see Job 1:10). God gives us comfort in the same way today; through His word the Bible, and through the lessons we hear each Sunday in The Notables, we can be edified and be made comfortable by the Lord, and by the Holy Spirit
Our verse today from Proverbs is Proverbs 2:1-5, "My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God."
Of all the things that we can provide for our children, the ability to seek wisdom is one of the most important. It's with this gift that our children will be able to survive in today's world falling back on the strength of God and His direction in their lives. By achieving this in their life before they achieve worldly successes, there is little that will stop them in any endeavor of their life. It's not a bad thing for us as parents to do either.
Blessings to all.
