We start the second book of Peter today, and pause to reflect back on when we started his first book. Recall from that day how we recognized that Peter's words apply to us today and we find that true again when we read in 2 Peter 1:5-8,"But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."
So the question might be today, where in this list of qualities are you at? Have you made progress this year "moving up the ladder?" We try hard to move up in our secular life, but where it really counts, with God as the ultimate performance reviewer, have we tried has hard to move up this ladder to a point we're showing love toward all? I like Peter's word in verse 5; "add". He doesn't say keep your faith, but add. And there's lot to add! He wants us to grow and improve.
As we grow, we'll begin to bear fruit. That's the point of growing, that we'll become fruit bearers for Christ. Our knowledge of the Lord we'll enable us to speak with authority to others and hopefully, lead them to Christ as well.
Keep pursuing perfection, for it's in this pursuit that you will capture excellence.
Blessings to all
