Reflections from November 12, 2010

Paul mentions today in our reading how we as Christians in the body of Christ, that is the Church, should act and proceed with witnessing the message of Christianity. Paul states in 1 Thessalonians 2:13, "For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe."

Keeping in mind that the early church did not have the organization and structure that we see today; that is, with a minister and staff, a building and active laity within the congregation. That started coming into existence around the 4th century. The early church was a group of believers who gathered together to learn about God, and shared a common love for Him, and desired to help others learn as well. This is more of an "outward-looking" congregation where the members view themselves as agents of Christ. People such as Paul and Timothy functioned to encourage them and to equip them for the work of ministry. They then became internists whose goal was to make Scripture rise up and walk in the minds and wills of everyday people no matter where they encountered them. In this manner, they, and likewise we today, can become an army of Christ overcoming spiritual opposition and a social agency to meet the needs of wounded, hurting people; an agent of justice promoting righteousness in the community; and a communications company proclaiming the good news of salvation.

Be being active and acting as a minister, we proclaim the glory of God and show to all the world without a doubt that we believe in Christ as our Lord.

Blessings to all
