Peter gives us some great instructions in 1 Peter 2:11-12, 15-17, "Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men -- as free, not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God. Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king."
Peter was telling his Jewish colleagues that even though they were persecuted by the Romans and other Gentiles of the day, and were considered like second class citizens, they had high worth in the eyes of God. And as such, they should use this worth and love from God as a reflection of His estimate of value in their lives, and show the world that they are honorable and good people.
Fortunately in this country, The United States, we don't have official persecution of Christians. But there are more people not saved by the grace of God than are saved, and one thing we can do to help turn that around is follow Peter's words today. By being good, by doing good things, by honoring and respecting all people, by fearing God, and by honoring the king (in this case, the President) we can show others that God is real, and provides real results in our life.
Most people are lost in the sense they don't know why their here. They go about their life without a sense of direction and that leads to insecurity in life. They want something to grasp and hold onto. Living our life as a reflection of Christ's salvation and with the love of God just might show them there is something worthy to hold onto and that gives real meaning to their life. Reflect God's love, grace and sovereignty as He truly gives it to you. Someone's life may be depending on it.
Blessings to all
