We'll complete John's three short letters today and see a common theme in each verse selected. He writes in 3 John 11, "Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God."
From October 1, we focused on the Son and having life. Then, on October 4, we focused on Christ and having His doctrine. With these two things we have abundant life. Today, we hear of doing good deeds, which shows you are of God.
This doesn't mean that people who aren't saved don't do good things, or that they're all evil. What it says to us is that when we proclaim ourselves to be Christian, when we say we're following Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and then we commit evil acts or don't help our brothers in Christ, then we're showing ourselves to be worse than those who don't follow Jesus.
Following the Golden Rule is worthy advice, and it helps us follow Jesus and His desires to imitate Him and thus, imitate what is good.
Blessings to all
