Paul encourages the married couples in the church to be completely devoted to each other and devoted to God when he says in 1 Corinthians 7:3-4, “Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his body, but the wife does.”
Paul reversed current tradition where husbands used sex as an emotional weapon against their wife. He wants believers to know that they were to enjoy mutual respect and love towards each other within the bounds of marriage.
This is great advise for today as well. At the end of the day, we should hold our spouse above all others, look them in the eye and tell them of our love, affection and admiration for them because they are the “second” most important aspect of our life; rising above all else except for our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Blessings to all
