Today from Luke 19:42 we read of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a young donkey and as he drew near, beginning to weep and saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.”
Jesus showed compassion for Jerusalem by being moved to grief by the conditions of the people. Soon however, he became angry at the moneychangers at the temple calling them robbers.
When we see unjust things, or people living in poor conditions, do we have a similar reaction as Jesus; one of compassion or one of anger? Is our emotion placed appropriately? Are we showing apathy, or do we move into productive or corrective action? Do we run the moneychangers out of the temple?
Sometimes you can’t do anything, but still, you should try. One time, a church we attended held a bizarre in the worship center. It was filled with all types of vendors that set up booths where people could sell crafts and such. It was an eerie feeling, to see all these vendors in the very room where God is worshiped and revered. We immediately thought of this scene in the bible, and my wife said something to a pastor. This person felt the same way, but could only tell us that a decision had been made; it was out of his hands.
Yes sometimes you can’t change the facts, but you should defend God’s way whenever possible.
Blessings to all
