Today we learn to keep a constant vigil as Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:13, "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming."
Jesus warns us to be prepared for His coming by telling us of the ten virgins; five were ready at all times, and five were not. When the bridegroom came, those who weren't ready were locked outside.
We can keep ready by staying close to Jesus in prayer, in His word and through His Church. How horrible it would be to hear Him say, "I do not know you."
Proverbs 7:2 tells us, "Keep my commandments and live, And my law as the apple of your eye."
Solomon is wisely telling us to keep God's commandments as a joy in our hearts. As such, we'll have no desire to enter into immoral practices with a seductress. By loving God and His commandments, our desires will be toward Him and His Word, not to things of this world.
Solomon's excellent writing shows up again in Proverbs 8:6 where he places wisdom in the first person to tell us, "Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things."
It's similar to a parent, isn't it? All we have to do is listen, and we'll receive excellence and things that are right. Since we know that God cannot give anything that isn't right, isn't excellent, we can rest assured that His wisdom will be likewise.
Blessing to all
