Reflections from May 5, 2010

I'm still trying to get caught up from last week's stay at the San Antonio hotel. My reading on Wednesday was in Matthew 23:12 which says, "And whoever exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Jesus was spending time on "scolding" the Scribes and Pharisees and pointing out all the hypocritical things they did. They liked to puff themselves up to seem very important, but Jesus cut to the bone and told them how they are not finding favor with God at all; in fact, they are angering God and will experience His wrath.

This is a good warning to us as well and Jesus says this in a very succinct way. By humbling ourselves we will find favor with God, but if we are full of pride and arrogance, we will experience God's displeasure.

From Proverbs 5:19 we read, "As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be enraptured with her love."

This is a great use of imagry by Solomon in that one can imagine a buck and a doe sitting peacefully with each other in the forest, together for life and cherishing their life together. Likewise, I enjoy and love the time I spend with my wife and there are no others that come close to stirring the love and passion that I experience simply at her sight. In the words of the Scripture, I am satisfied at all times. I love here as much today as the day I married her and know I'll be enraptured by her for all my days.

Blessings to all
