Reflections from May 17, 2010

Paul tells us in Romans 3:23-25, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness"

What Paul tells us is that our righteousness can't be obtained on our own to the satisfaction of God, it's only through His Son, that He gave to us, that we can be saved. The blood of Jesus is what we rely on and all we can do is our best to be like Jesus. We are sinners, we fall short of God's glory and He knows we do; yet in His love for us, He still calls us to be with Him, to accept the sacrifice and salvation that is provided to us. Paul essentially substantiates God's love for us in a very deep manner.

From Proverbs 16:20 we read, "He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he."

Simple, but true words. Happiness is derived from God, not from things or stuff, or actions we do on our own. By trusting God, we find that He will provide all our needs and that includes our happiness. Our joy in life is found through God, not through each other.

Proverbs 17:1 puts the point on the exclamation point for that by saying, "Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting with strife."

Strife, anger, stress; all of these things cause pain in one's life. Solomon recognizes this and even though small morsels of food will leave you hungry, that's better than living a life filled with hurt, with the pain that comes from strife. One can live with small portions of food, but the pain that comes with stress will end up killing you. Let God calm that in your life, and let God bring you happiness through His word.

Blessings to all
