Reflections from January 27, 2010

January 27, 2010
Today's New Testament verse is Acts 5:39, "but, if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it -- lest you even be found to fight against God."

This verse has provided comfort throughout the years when I start to think that the world is against me. My job may be in jeopardy, finanicial dealings, etc.; things that tend to get us down. When I remember that if God wants something for me, there's no one on earth that can keep me from having it. On the other hand, if God wants to keep something from me, there's no way on earth that I'll get it...provided I'm keeping a close relationship with God so that I hear from Him.

Today's verse from Proverbs is Proverbs 27:1, "Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth."

How true this is! We tend to be planners at times, thinking about "the great things that will happen tomorrow", or that fateful cry, "Just wait 'til next year!" We should focus on today, and concentrate on hearing from God today, for God will take care of tomorrow.

Blessings to you all

  1. Hey Steve,

Christi and I are reading the new testament as well each day. It is amazing how the religious leaders after Christ's resurrection still tried to stop the apostles from teaching the people. You would think that after personally witnessing the miracles and hearing the accounts from others that the high priests would have gotten the message. How hard their hearts had become. All the more reason to stay in the Word so that we do not miss the messages that have been given to us. God Bless You.
    Love Jo
