Reflections from February 8, 2011

As God began to prepare Moses for his new occupation, Moses had doubts about his ability, particularly his ability to speak. However, God says in Exodus 4:11-12,
"Who has made the mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say."

Here we see quite an interesting tidbit of information and insight into God. He declares that it is He who is responsible for people's disabilities, whether they can't hear, or see or speak. So that says God did that on purpose. But why? Our knowledge of the bible tells us He did this for a purpose, but what? What good can come out of a person's disability? Perhaps the answer lies with us...can we set aside our reasoning, our intellect long enough and have total and absolute faith in God? Do we have to have a reason for everything? Isn't it enough to have God tell us that He did this, and that's all we need to know? I don't understand it. I can't explain it truly, but it does not at all alter my faith in God, nor my belief in that He is a God of love, and that He is fair. Though I cannot in my mind explain to you how, though I cannot give you a rationale, because it hasn't really been reduced to my intellect, and thank God it hasn't. I must just believe His eternal word and trust in Him, thus my faith in God is greater.

So Moses and Aaron set off to Egypt and to tell the Pharaoh what God wants him to hear. Pharaoh found this amusing, enough so to essentially double the work load of the Israelites. Then they started grumbling to Moses, who in turn went to God to ask him in Exodus 5:22-23,
"Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all."

Have you ever been at a point where you were discouraged about where things are in your job? Things aren't working out like you planned, or maybe even as things were promised to you? Do you get to the point where you're ready to throw in the towel and go do something else? We all have, especially when there's others that are grumbling about things. But in certain cases, God has called us to be right where we're at, doing what we're doing. We can't lose faith in God. Satan has a way of using the bad things and getting you depressed about it. But when you call out to God he just says, Get back to work. Why are you crying about this? Just keep the faith.

And when we keep the faith, we might get the reaffirmation from God that we need, certainly we hear from God at His right time. In Exodus 6:6-8, we see that God reaffirmed Moses' work by saying,
"I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgements. I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord."

That seems pretty clear! Hearing something like that would certainly put the bounce back into your step. When you know that God is on your side, and gives you a promise like that, you feel pretty invincible. And that's what God wants, our full faith and confidence in Him. We trust and love God to the point that we know, if He says it, it will happen in His appointed time.

Blessings to all
