Reflections from January 4, 2011

Today's reading is Genesis chapters 3-5. We read through the the fall of mankind, the birth and death of Adam and Eve's son, and the genealogie of Noah.

After Eve was tempted and ate of the fruit and Adam did likewise, God found them hiding in the Garden of Eden and discovered what they had done. To the serpent He said in Genesis 3:15,
"And I will put enmity between you and the woman. And between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel."

God set into motion His plan that culiminates in the destruction forever of Satan and his evil on our world. Satan had the opportunity to "bruise" Jesus on the cross, but Satan will be bruised in the head, a much more deadly wound.

After Cain killed Able, God said to him in Genesis 4:7,
"If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should not rule over it."

There are many, many examples of sin's desire for man; through temptations, indulgence, etc. The thing about sin, is that it will never turn you away, it's always going to invite you in. But, it doesn't care for you one bit. The key is to not rule over it, but one does need to be aware of its desire for mankind.

And then as we trace the genealogie from Adam to Noah, we find there are 1056 years between Adam's creation to the birth of Noah. We read in Genesis 5:1-2,
"In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created."

It's interesting to note that God created Adam and Eve, male and female, to form a bond of a family together, to be husband and wife, to have children. God's plan is only for a man and a woman to be joined in this way. It's unfortunate that Satan has gotten into so many hearts to change this view point.

Blessings to all
