Reflections from January 17, 2011

How interesting to read this passage in Genesis while at Winter Retreat with all the different emotions in play. We read in Genesis 28:16-17 where Jacob says,

"'Surely the Lord is in this place and I did not know it.' And he was afraid and said, 'How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.'"

God works in wonderful ways and he showed me that His house is anywhere He is, even in a stinky, teenager filled cabin. His love abounds for all and He gives us the opportunity to worship Him at the gate of Heaven.

Jacob showed uncommon commitment for an uncommon woman, Rachel. We read in Genesis 29:30,

"Then Jacob also went in to Rachel and he also loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban still another seven years."

Now many guys have looked at seven years after marriage at other women, but Jacob had to serve 2 x 7 years to take Rachel as his wife. His commitment was blessed as Jacob's lineage became the tribes of Israel.
Our commitment can be blessed by the Lord as well as long as we are faithful to Him in all ways.
