Reflections from November 8, 2010

Today in John 16:23-24 we read, "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full."

Some have interpreted this as ask the Father for money or riches, and do it in the name of Jesus; therefore, you will be rich. But I think this is really about being able to go directly to the Father and receive the joy of fellowship with Him. As they say, to know Him is to love Him. And God wants nothing more than for us to love Him as Almighty. Daily time in prayer with Him helps us to receive His love and guidance win our lives, of which we surely need.

From John 17:24 we read, "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world."

Jesus wants very much for us to be with Him in Heaven, and His prayer to the Father is two-fold; that we are able to join Him in heaven to be with Him, but to also persevere and not lose faith and remember Him and the One that sent Him, so we can stay righteous for the joy that comes when we pass from earth. What a joyous time it will be when we have the chance to meet Jesus face-to-face.

Blessings to all
