Reflections from November 1, 2010

Jesus provided comfort to His disciples, but He also made a very profound statement when He said in John 14:6, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

In other words, you cannot get to God the Father, except by way of Jesus. There are those people who declare, "All roads lead to God. All religions lead men to God. All roads go to God." Not so! There's only one road that leads to the Father and that's Jesus Christ. "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father..." Now, people may try to find other gods and serve other gods, but they don't serve the true and the living God, except through Jesus Christ. "No man," He said, "comes to the Father but by Me."

John Smith, in his C2000 commentary on this verse, describes a meeting with Mormons and the discussion they had on Jesus being God. I had the same experience in my youth with Jehovah's Witnesses in that they do not believe in the trinity, they believe in three separate beings, Jehovah God as Father, Jesus Christ is Son, and the Holy Spirit. They, like the Mormons, place Jesus below God, but Jesus is very clear here in John chapter 14, that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him. And for us to have intimacy with the Father, we will go through Jesus.

Now that's comforting; having the Holy Spirit abide in me, entering into the Father's court with Jesus. With God covering my back like this, how can I fail?

Blessings to all
