Today we finish Paul's second letter to Timothy and read his comments on the importance of Scripture in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Chuck Smith in his sermon notes on this subject, offers the importance of being convinced that all scripture truly is inspired by God, because if we start believing it isn't, we can start to put a twist on the story, and then the verses are inspired by us! And that is dangerous. Not only would we be deceiving ourselves, we could quite possibly be deceiving others if they start to believe us. God is sad when we don't believe His word, and follow Jesus, but I'm pretty sure He gets quite angry when we deceive others as well and prevent them from following Jesus. We must take the whole bible, not just parts of it, and ensure we have a strong understanding of all verses in it. If we don't understand something, we must recognize that and study on it from trusted sources. God will reveal to us an understanding in His time.
Finally, from 2 Timothy 4:17, God's response to me directly through Paul is a word of encouragement when he says, "But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me,".
Sometimes I get a bit down with all the work of the Life Group, and wonder if it's worth the time and effort. God's word here, and the example of Paul, is an encouragement to me for our group, The Notables.
Blessings to all
