Reflections from August 12, 2010

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 11:3, "...the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."

Does this mean there is hierarchy in the church? Does this imply subordination? Some give other opinions that the word "head" as used here means absolute oneness, cause, or primal source. It's important to note that while "the head of Christ is God", Christ is shown throughout the Bible to be equal to God. So we need not exclude the idea of equality with the use of the word "head." Nevertheless, Christ did submit Himself in obedience to God by offering Himself as a sacrifice for our sins.

The Bible tells husbands to submit to their wife. This shows equality in the relationship.

Blessings to all
