Today we read about faith and forgiveness and that it doesn't really take faith to forgive, it's just something you do. We read in Luke 17:3-4, "Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you saying, 'I repent,' you shall forgive him."
In order to do this, the disciples believed they needed more and stronger faith. How could someone of little faith keep forgiving someone over and over? Well Jesus told another story about a servant that is out working the field, and comes in after a hard day at work; yet the master tells him to prepare his meal. Once the master is finished, then the servant can eat his dinner. The servant doesn't need additional strength to do this, he just does it because the master has obligated him to do that.
Likewise, Jesus has made it clear that forgiveness on our part is expected of us as Christians and followers of Christ. We are obligated to forgive others, not just once, not seven times, but even up to seven times seventy times; and we're obligated to do this without any expectation of a reward. Our reward comes from following Jesus. We have an even greater reward by being able to live in this great country and follow Jesus.
Blessings to all
