Today we read about the "unpardonable sin" in Matthew 12:31-32, "Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come."
When Jesus said this to the Pharisees, He was telling them it is a matter of eternal consequences.
Jesus indicated that all sins but one, even if we speak badly about Jesus Himself, will be forgiven provided we have turned to Him as our Lord and Savior. But when we are like the Pharisees, that is to persist in rebellion and sin and resist His call to repentance, we willfully place ourselves beyond the Grace of God. When Jesus healed a demon-possessed man by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Pharisees accused Him of casting out demons by the power of Satan. This was strong evidence that they had indeed rejected Jesus. By doing so, they also slandered the Holy Spirit and this revealed their spiritual blindness, a warping and perversion of their moral nature that put them beyond hope of repentance and faith -- thus, beyond forgiveness.
When we trust our own self-righteousness and reject Jesus, we are slandering the Holy Spirit and revealing a spiritual cancer so advanced that it will place us beyond any hope of healing and forgiveness. By staying in God's word, we can protect ourselves from this ever happening as we learn more about God, and we love more about God.
Just as we did in chapter 19, today in Proverbs 20:20 we read more on parents where it says, "Whoever curses his father or mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness."
It's clear that Scriptures place a responsibility on parents for how they raise their children. But it also places responsibility on children to show respect for their parents. By cursing them, we show dishonor to them and thus, direct disobedience to God.
Blessings to all
