Reflections from February 11, 2010

The New Testament verse today is from Acts 16:30-31, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."

This is the account of Paul and Silas in prison and the Lord had just released them by causing an earthquake to loosen their chains and open the doors of the jail. The guard thought by the open doors they had escaped and he was starting to kill himself over that. Fortunately, Paul called out to stop him. In his moment of darkness, he reached out to Jesus and our Lord's extended hand grabbed the jailer's hand and pulled him to the safety of the Cross. No matter what the circumstance we find ourselves in, reaching to Jesus for salvation should be our first choice to get help for ourselves. Jesus is always ready to answer the call for help.

From Proverbs today we have Proverbs 11:14, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety."

We are all probably guilty of trying to do something our own way, not getting any help or advice, and then having to deal with the consequences of (1) something going wrong and (2) someone saying "I told you so!" Solomon's counsel is still good today. Get input, get advice, get help on decisions you need to make. There's always something that comes out that we would not have thought of and that type of information will help us make a better decision.

Blessings to all.
